She has appeared to have lost weight in recent weeks since news emerged of trouble in her relationship with fiance Liam Hemsworth.

And Miley Cyrus looked slimmer than ever in pictures she posted on her Twitter account over the last 24 hours.

The 20-year-old star took a selfie snap of herself in a Chicago hotel room wearing just a White Sox baseball jersey.

The sports apparel showed off The Last Song star's tiny legs as it swamped her frame.

After enjoying dinner with her mother Trish, who recently announced her split with Miley's father Billy Ray, the pop star opted for another change of outfit.

This time Miley slipped her slender frame into a dove grey Mason Martin Margiela jumpsuit for an event to promote her new single 'We Can't Stop' in the Windy City.

She paired the all-in-one with white and gold platform heels and various gold jewels.

As she has recently been of late, Miley had her platinum punk-style hair coiffed into a high quiff and wore lashings of red lipstick on her pout.

She smiled for the cameras as she posed with various fans and guests at the event.

The songstress also appears to be putting on a brave face since news emerged this week that her parents had filed for divorce.

Miley has since been caught in the middle of the split by spending time in Chicago with her mother Tish as well as Tweeting her father Billy Ray.

Just hours after Tish released a statement earlier this week that she and country singer Billy Ray will be ending their union, Miley reached out to her father on Twitter.

Perhaps showing signs that communication is breaking down between the high-profile duo, she wrote: '@billyraycyrus since your text and email obviously aren't working would you like to talk like this?'

Moments later the former Disney star proclaimed that it's her prerogative how she uses her social media accounts.

'It's my twitter I can tweet what I want to #wecantstop,' she wrote.

Billy Ray has yet to respond, the last time the pair engaged in an online chat being on June 3 when her father wished her success with her latest single.

He wrote: '@MileyCyrus Congratuations on #We Can't Stop. Number One on itunes! Smile and be happy Bud. Enjoy the ride ..."MUSIC CHANGES EVERYTHING"

Mother Tish also took to the micro-blogging site to air some thoughts on her side of the story.

'God is so good. I know his plan for me is a good one,' she replied to a follower who wished her support.

She also shared a post from Christian motivational speaker Tammy Trent: 'God never promises the absence of storms. He just promises to walk with us through them!'

'Thanks for that Tammy. You are the strongest women in the world. What u went thru makes my problems seem so small,' she commented.

Tish is citing irreconcilable differences as the reason she wants to end her union with the Achy Breaky Heart star -- three years after the pair previously filed for divorce and later dropped the charge in an attempt to iron out their problems. 

The couple have been married for 19 years and have three children together -- Miley, Braison, 19, and Noah, 13. Tish also has two children, Brandi, 26, and Trace, 24, from a previous marriage, whom Billy Ray adopted.

According to TMZ, Tish is asking for full physical and legal custody, of their last remaining minor child, 13-year-old Noah, offering Billy Ray visitation rights.

She released a statement to US Weekly on Thursday, saying: 'This is a personal matter and we are working to find a resolution that is in the best interest of our family. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time.'

The 53-year-old is also asking for spousal support, and she wants him to pay her attorney's fees.  The date of separation is listed as 'to be decided.'

When Billy Ray, 51, filed the first time in 2010, he claimed Miley's fame had compromised their family, but there seems to be no hint of that this time round.

When they got back together a year later, Billy said: 'I’ve dropped the divorce. Things are the best they’ve ever been.

'I feel like I got my Miley back in a way. I feel like we are the daddy and daughter that we were before Hannah Montana happened.'

However it seems the good times did not last, though this time it was his wife who made the decision to end their relationship.

Miley has been having love problems of her own in recent months.

Her relationship with fiance Liam Hemsworth was called into question when he jetted off to Australia without her in March because he 'need a break' from her.

And there was more drama this week when there was speculation she may be romancing Justin Bieber after the pair were partying at a Hollywood nightclub.

However she spoke out to dispel the rumours, insisting, ''I’m engaged. I’m engaged! That’s impossible.'
