Amanda Bynes goes in search of a hat as she struggles to hide her scruffy hair extensions
She has been in the spotlight recently due to her bizarre appearance, amongst other things.
And Amanda Bynes doesn’t seem to have achieved the correct balance with her new look quite yet judging by her recent outing in New York City.
The 27-year-old was spotted headed to a market in the Big Apple where she was apparently on the lookout for a cap to cover her head.
Tangled tresses: Amanda Bynes was seen walking around in New York City displaying a messy hairstyle
Unattractive look: Her hair extension micro-beading process was evident as she scraped her hair back from the front
The bargain hunt came just days after she stepped out with blonde tresses following some experimentation with an auburn hue and various wigs prior to that.
It’s no wonder Amanda wanted to conceal her crown as her micro-beading procedure was very visible at the front of her scalp.
Perhaps it didn’t help that she had flipped her messy tresses over to one side which made the method - used to attach longer sections of hair to her mane - rather obvious.
It is surprising that Amanda even managed to have the beauty process done as she claimed to have shaved her head recently.
After a publication posted snaps which she deemed less than her best image, she went on a rant online defending her appearance and even pointed out that she was aware of her hardly polished look.
She wrote on Twitter: ‘please post my pics anytime! I had to shave my head because of hair damage from someone @ John Barrett so I'm not loving my paparazzi pics for a few years! I have extensions but you can see them!’
Amanda dressed casually for the trip where she perused hats and sunglasses on the stalls, donning rolled down Ugg boots with black leggings, a hooded top and padded coat.
She teamed it with an oversize Louis Vuitton handbag and wandered through the streets tapping away on her mobile phone.
Hidden agenda: Amanda used a FEDex envelope to cover up her face as came over all shy
Casual look: Amanda wondered around in the road wearing Ugg boots, black leggings and a large gold designer bag
On Wednesday she took to Twitter to write that some reports about her were not true.
She wrote on her micro-blogging account: ‘I don't speak to my parents anymore, they don't talk to reporters on my behalf. Don't believe anything you read about me unless I tweet it.’
A few hours later Amanda added her pals were not acting as a channel for her to speak to the public either.
Hair flip: The 27-year-old didn't seem to be conscious of her shaggy roots as she changed the direction of her attached strands
‘My friends don't speak on my behalf either. Please don't read anything about me needing help. That offends me. Follow me on twitter!’ she posted.
The former Nickelodeon actress and children’s movie favourite spoke about her recent troubles as her parents reprimanded Kim Kardashian for praising their daughter’s wacky image.
A source told Perez Hilton: 'Amanda’s parents hope that people, including Kim, would show empathy towards their daughter at this time. Even if Kim was joking about Amanda’s appearance, it really isn’t funny. Amanda is in trouble and she doesn’t need to be a punchline in a joke.'
Amanda has reportedly settled two hit-and-run cases after reaching a civil compromise with her victims, saving herself from a potential 12 months in jail.
Time to cover up: The star was later spotted looking at stalls with hats and sunglasses
Still the move to New York didn't get her out of hot water.
Staff at a hairdressing salon she visited on Tuesday admitted that she looked to be ‘under the influence of something’.
'I feel sorry for her,' the stylist told Radaronline.com. 'I don’t know what she was on exactly, but she was definitely on something.'
Her actions are reminiscent of pop star Britney Spears' 2007 breakdown where she shockingly shaved her head at a salon.
